The Committee

We can offer you advice on most areas of university life and if there is something we don’t know we can put you in contact with someone who does. If you have any questions, problems or need any help PLEASE feel free to get in touch, either before you arrive or at any point afterwards:

President: Chandan Shergill

  • Age: 19
  • From: Wigan
  • Course: French & German
  • Email: cs7166@bristol.ac.uk
  • About Me: Hi I'm Chandan. I spend my time watching neighbours, drinking tea and going to gigs...and also quite a lot of it listening to people make fun of me for my northern accent and for being an arts kid. Bristol is amazing, and being out of halls is too - I was in private accommodation in my first year and it was great; you have lots of freedom and independence and it's likely you'll be closer to the city and the uni than the freshers at Stoke Bishop, so you can get up later for lectures and you can walk home (in groups - safety first!) after nights out instead of taxi-ing, so it's cheaper! Woop woop. Orbital holds lots of marvellous events throughout the year for you guys,so make sure you get involved! There really is no excuse - it's first year, you only have to pass!
Chandan Shergill (President)

Vice President: Yoav Farbey

  • Age: 20
  • From: London
  • Course: Computer Science
  • Email: yf6860@bristol.ac.uk
  • About Me: My best piece of advice to you is when you get to your wonderful Orbital flat, make everyone a cup of tea and sit your flatmates down for a chat of introductions. The next day go round all the flats in your building with some biscuits, offer them round, go in, sit down, introduce yourself, make more friends. That is what I did and I have had the best time in Bristol ever. This is the advantage of living in Orbital, you don’t get these sort of opportunities in halls.
Yoav Farbey (Vice Presdient)

Treasurer: Steve Rodrigues

  • Age: 19
  • From: Reading
  • Course: Accounting & Finance
  • Email: sr7162@bristol.ac.uk
  • About Me: Born and bred in a little town called Reading, known for its festival and well being on the M4 on the way to London, coming to Bristol was the first big move for me. Living in a student house totally exceeded my expectations and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Make the most of your first year, and get involved in as much as possible, otherwise you’ll just regret it.
Steve Rodrigues (Treasurer)

Ents Rep: Hannah Fuller

  • Age: 20
  • From: Bristol
  • Course: Anatomical Science
  • Email: hf7450@bristol.ac.uk
  • About Me: I spent my first year living in the Hawthorns and loved every minute of it and I know for a fact that student houses have more fun than halls! Being from Bristol I already knew what I liked about the city but meeting so many new people encouraged me to try different nights than the ones I was used to and that’s my biggest piece of advice for your first year, don't knock it until you've tried it as you'll probably be surprised!
Hannah Fuller (Ents Rep)

Sports Rep: Ali Sweeney

  • Age: 19
  • From: Derby
  • Course: Mechanical Engineering
  • Email: as7473@bristol.ac.uk
  • About Me: I thought not being in halls would be completely poo. However, it turned out to be pretty awesome. Plenty of parties, sports and people to meet. You’ll probably be closer to everything than the halls, which means later mornings. My main tip is get into sports early, it’s a great way to meet people and join in on some boozy socials.
Ali Sweeney (Sports Rep)

Sports Rep: Saleem Zuberi

  • Age: 19
  • From: London
  • Course: Mechanical Engineering
  • Email: sz7847@bristol.ac.uk
  • About Me: My favouritest thing about living out of halls is doing what you want, when you want. You make much better friends and don’t have to walk for 45 minutes to get to Uni. Also you meet loads more people, get events all year and get to have us as your committee! Woo!
Saleem Zuberi (Sports Rep)

Publicity & Promotions: Anastasia Mikheeva

  • Age: 19
  • From: London
  • Course: Maths
  • Email: am7336@bristol.ac.uk
  • About Me: Hi, I'm An, and I’m going to be making sure you know about all the Orbital stuff that's going on this year. I lived in private accommodation in my first year and I absolutely loved it - unlike those suckers in Stoke Bishop you get to roll out of bed twenty minutes before a lecture and still get there on time! Awesome! Advice: don’t be scared of other Freshers. Also, definitely wander around Bristol during the day, it’s a great city to get lost in!
Anastasia Mikheeva (Publicity & Promotions)

Rag: Laura Teece

  • Age: 19
  • From: Market Bosworth
  • Course: Geography
  • Email: lt7082@bristol.ac.uk
  • About Me: I have always been interested in charity work and joined RAG because it is a brilliant way to get involved in it at university. I love living in a student house because it is really easy to get to know lots of people and there is a real sense of community. My advice is to talk to as many people as possible when you arrive even if you are feeling shy, and to get organised before you get here so you can really enjoy freshers week.

Webmaster: Neil Kimmett

  • Age: 19
  • From: Southampton
  • Course: Physics
  • Email: nk7290@bristol.ac.uk
  • About Me: Orbital is, without doubt, the best thing ever. My advice to go out, meet lots and lots of new people and have fun. Try not to get caught up going to the same places all the time, Bristol has so many places to go and so many things to do you'll never get bored. Enjoy your first year, it goes so quickly!
Neil Kimmett (Webmaster)
